“’They could destroy the album,’” The Guardian wrote of the streaming service in August. “The Secret Hit-Making Power of the Spotify Playlist,” reads a May 2017 Wired report. So it’s not entirely bad if you only get added to a few and manage to boost your play count in the process. The stories about Spotify seemed to come in a wave last year. Now, I should note that Spotify takes playlist adds into account when selecting for their official playlists which would get you tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of views. I am in no way saying that I didn’t see any results or that this couldn’t lead to a much larger result later on as my track sits in these playlists. However there is not any guarantee to get any value for our money as artists. what?) and having a decent sized playlist to add artists to. These curators are guaranteed pay for bad reviews (“too long maybe shorter was worth it” uhhh. For example one of the playlists I was added to was the same name as Ed Sheeran’s next album which contained all his music, Justin Bieber’s music, and some random artists probably much like myself sprinkled throughout. What I mean is that they can have a playlist that is entirely clickbait. Now the only odd thing is that there isn’t much regulation for the curators. In my opinion the best part of this experience is the fact that one of the playlists has 20k followers and keeps the average song on the playlist for over a thousand days which means it could be generating plays for a long time to come. While it is decent considering I have no following at all, I have to admit that I was expecting more in this time frame for $290 CAD.

There was a noticeable jump in plays as I didn’t do any other form of promotion for this track we went from 0 to 278 plays in the 2 week span. The number of listeners has increased to 198. Results: “Feeling Something” has been added to 3 playlists with a total follower count of 29k. Any information whether successful or not would be appreciated!

I’ll be back once the campaign has finished to leave my results as well. If you would like to track the results you can find my song “Feeling Something” by Horizon Wake on Spotify. I figured I would see what I could get coming from 0 with something average. As far as my music goes it’s not my best and not my worst.

Pitching a single song to 21 R&B playlists. I started my first campaign with them yesterday for $230 USD. I believe this may be a help to other artists who feel uneasy with these kinds of services. I am looking to see any stories of how well playlist push campaigns perform as they are very highly priced with no policy for any kind of guaranteed result.
